Strategic Construction Guidance

About Steve

With 25+ years of experience in design, building, and project management, I create outdoor spaces that feel personal, practical, and beautifully integrated with how you live. Beyond design, I provide guidance through budgeting, planning, and contractor vetting and selection—helping you avoid common construction missteps and move forward with confidence.

Each project begins with thoughtful conversation and a thorough review of your property’s assets and challenges. Together, we explore your goals, your family’s routines, and how you want to experience your outdoor space. From there, we develop a detailed Project Outline and a curated set of digital Inspiration Boards to help shape a clear and purposeful design direction.

As a San Diego-based landscape designer, my multidisciplinary background includes landscape architecture, furniture design, product development, and construction strategy. My experience includes leading design-focused companies and developing home collections for brands like Nordstrom, Restoration Hardware, and Crate & Barrel. For the past decade, I’ve focused on working with families to create outdoor spaces that are functional, inspiring, and reflective of how they live.

Originally from Long Island, I spent several years in Boston studying Architectural Engineering and Industrial Design while raising my twins. I later made San Diego home, where I bring calm, creative energy to each project—listening closely, collaborating fully, and helping ensure your outdoor space is both beautifully designed and thoughtfully executed.

Process

The process begins with conversation—to understand your family's goals, priorities, and how you want to live outdoors. From there, I develop custom designs tailored to your space and guide you toward construction with clarity, realistic planning, and trusted contractor support.

  • 1. Discovery Call + On-Site Visit

Begin with a phone or video call to learn more about your project. We schedule a site visit to walk the space, discuss your vision, and gather early insights.

  • 2. Preliminary Scope

Following the visit, I outline the preliminary scope summary document , deliverables, process, and design agreement. Once approved, we begin.

  • 3. Review Existing Documentation

Any existing, architectural plans, surveys, and HOA guidelines are reviewed to provide additional context and a clearer understanding of the space.

  • 4. Site Survey + Documentation:

As needed, capture detailed site measurements, photos, videos. and drone footage to build an accurate digital 3d model of your property.

  • 5. Project Summary

A clear, written summary is developed to capture goals, priorities, and site conditions. This shared document helps guide decisions and align expectations.

  • 6. Inspiration Photo Sharing

Inspiration images are explored to identify features, materials, planting styles, and overall atmosphere.

  • 3D Draft Design

A 3D model of the home and landscape is created, exploring layout, hardscaping, plantings, lighting, sun and shade, and circulation—providing an early vision of the design direction.
